I know what you are thinking. A tech review site, reviewing potato chips, what the fuck? Right? You’re right, it has nothing to do with tech. But you know who loves potato chips? Fucking everyone.
So I figure it may be relevant to most people’s interests. That being said, let’s talk tater chips.
One of four finalists in the Lay’s create your own chip contest. Wasabi Ginger was probably the only flavor I found to be even remotely appetizing. The other flavors Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese, Mango Salsa, and the fucking abomination, Cappuccino, didn’t quite live up to their potential in my opinion. While Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese, and Mango Salsa were at least edible, Cappuccino was a god damn disgrace to potato chips. Who in their right fucking mind, thought cappuccino potato chips was a good idea? I took part in the potato chip flavor submission process, I thought it was quite fun. I submitted a shit load of my own ideas, I also saw a bunch of very tasty sounding potato chips. So there was certainly no lack of available entries to choose from. Out of all that tasty shit I saw, some fuck wad decided that Cappu fucking ccino was the best!? I guarantee some stoned ass face submitted that shit as a joke that Lay’s somehow took seriously. What the fuck Lays!?
Okay, now that is off my chest, back to the good shit. Wasabi Ginger was announced as the official winner of the contest. So if you have not had them yet, your’e in luck, they are here to stay. They are the kettle cooked variety, so they have a perfect crunchy texture (my personal favorite chip variety). The texture fits the its taste profile perfectly. So what do these bitches taste like? They taste just like they sound. If you are a fan of sushi, you might enjoy these. Sushi is the first thing I though of while eating these. I imagine the only time most of us here in the US eat wasabi is when we are eating sushi, so I figure its probably the natural connection for most people. Are they spicy? Quick answer, no. People hear the word “wasabi” and they automatically think super spicy. But the heat, really isn’t that bad. It’s more wasabi flavor than anything. I am not a fan of super spicy food, I can handle spice & heat, but I am not a fan of the everlasting burn like some of you fucking masochists out there. I would classify these as being in-between medium and mild “mildium”. So they should tolerable, for most people.
An excellent snack food overall, Lays Wasabi Ginger potato chips make an excellent addition to any tech lovers late night junk food arsenal. Get you some.
VERDICT: Tasty chips, unique flavor, excellent crunch.
